Kevin Feige wants to sign up Ryan Reynolds in the biggest MCU deal ever but what does that really mean
Ever since Marvel owner Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, fans have been overly eager to watch what the studio cooks up with the new heroes added to their arsenal. Certain heroes such as The X-Men, The Fantastic Four and Deadpool – who are huge comic characters – couldn’t appear in Marvel movies till now due to copyright issues. All that changed in 2019 when the acquisition happened. Now reports suggest Marvel wants to have a monumental deal with Ryan Reynolds for his MCU appearance.
Though difficult to include R rated content in MCU, opportunities and benefits of having a Deadpool crossover to the MCU haven’t gone unnoticed by Kevin Feige.
Deadpool In The MCU
Known for his carefree attitude and self-effacing humour, Deadpool is an anti-villain with a very strong motivation to live life on his own terms. After a rogue experiment gives him accelerated healing, making him almost indestructible, the sword-swinging mercenary decides to seek revenge and rid the world of evil. For Deadpool, what he does isn’t as important as how he does it. His ability to have discussions in the third person, churning out witty statements all day long, makes him a very exciting addition to the MCU.
While plans for Phase 4 of the MCU are well underway with Professor X and a few X-Men set to make appearances in Doctor Strange’s Multiverse of Madness, Marvel is reportedly looking to expand the reach of the Merc-with-a-Mouth’s influence in the MCU. Deadpool’s third-person mode gives him the ability to think out loud and have conversations with the audience. His carefree attitude makes it impossible for him to be labelled a hero or a villain. While Deadpool hunts rogue mercenaries and villains, he has also been known to fight – and defeat – a couple of the MCU’s heroes.

Apart from working on the third part of the Deadpool saga, it has been reported that the MCU is considering having Reynold’sDeadpool character appear in several future MCU projects.
When finalized, the deal could see Ryan Reynold become the highest-earning Marvel actor – a position previously held by Robert Downey Jr.
Ryan Reynolds’ Replacing Robert Downey Jr
After Iron Man’s demise in Avengers: Endgame, there has been a lot of chatter concerning which character would be solid enough to fill the void caused by his absence. But after accessing the obvious options, perhaps the pivotal hero the MCU needs is Deadpool. Apart from the enormous story plots that connect him to several heroes in the MCU, the Deadpool character could give the MCU much more control over how they unravel their movie plots.
Marvel Studios has always been big on creating the right mix of comedy and thrilling action, and with Deadpool being set up for some kind of spotlight, it’s clear that they intend to continue. Although there isn’t a formal release date for the much anticipated Deadpool three-quel, Reynold revealed earlier this year that the script was pretty much evolving as the days go by. However, there is a huge possibility that fans could get to see Deadpool in a Marvel movie before the release of Deadpool 3.

It’s hard to imagine Deadpool being the replacement for Iron Man considering he isn’t referred to as a hero in most circles. However, we do know that a lot of plots in Marvel’s next phase are going to be a bit complex and shocking. One fan theory suggests that Deadpool could be used as a tool by the MCU to kill off several characters in future phases. This theory isn’t far-fetched considering that the MCU now has a flurry of new heroes. And there is no other killing machine more capable of providing a fine mixture of despair and humour.
With the Phase 4 of the MCU set to kick off with the release of Black Widow, WandaVision and Falcon &The Winter Soldier, it will be interesting to see how and at what point the MCU will introduce Deadpool. Also, the contents of Ryan Reynolds monumental deal with Marvel Studios would be worth noticing!
