Even if the character of Iron Man died in Endgame, the production storyline will see Robert Downey Jr. back in the next phase of Marvel movies.
Avengers and MCU are synonymous with Tony Stark aka Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr. At the end of Avengers: Endgame we all saw Robert Downey aka Tony Stark sacrificed himself for the greater good. But fans aren’t convinced that this could be last of Tony Stark in the franchise. Marvel sources have claimed that Robert Downey is preparing to return as Iron Man (read Jarvis/ Friday) once more.
Yes, Robert Downey will be a part of the MCU as the upgraded version of Jarvis and Friday.
Jarvis Story fuels speculation surrounding Downey’s return to Marvel
The wide speculation that Downey Jr. could return to the MCU has some solid truth to it. Tony Stark’s character will return in the form of an AI version of himself in the future. There was a prediction that Robert Downey will occur in Spider-Man: Far From Home via E.D.I.T.H., but that didn’t turn out to be the case. So next, fans and comic geeks have a strong feeling that Stark will assist the new Iron Man as a holographic image becoming its alter ego.
Tony Stark as the AI assistant to Ty Simpkins
In MCU, Tony Stark had a natural-language user interface computer system named J.A.R.V.I.S. Stark upgrades Jarvis as an artificially intelligent system. Stark uploaded into all Iron Man Armours. Therefore, it allowed him to interact with the other Avengers.
“The source states Robert Downey Jr would return in a voiceover role similar to Paul Bettany’s JARVIS in the marvel Universe.”
Stark found J.A.R.V.I.S. remains after he was destroyed by Ultron. From that, he created an entirely new being, Vision. Tony Stark creates F.R.I.D.A.Y. as the new AI. He is designed to work with his Iron Man armor.
Who will be getting Robert Downey Jr. as a mentor?
So, we have 2 candidates who could get Robert Downey Jr as a mentor- Ty Simpkins. He played Harley Keener in ‘Iron Man 3’ or Ironheart, the teenage genius who continues Tony Stark’s legacy in the comic books.
Ty Simpkins plays the tech-savvy boy, who comes to Robert Downey Jr. or Tony Stark’s aid while he is stranded in Tennessee in Marvel’s Iron Man 3. Simpkins did not have a major role in the film. However, Iron Man does set him up with the latest and greatest technology before leaving him behind.
Ty Simpkins signed on a three-picture deal to play Harley Keener in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Iron Man 3 being the first movie of the deal. Thus, we are assuming that the new AI is Tony Stark.
Why this may be the case?
The funeral shows Simpkins is in touch with Stark. He came to see the only father figure he ever had. His placement in the scene clearly intends to be a hint.
Ty Simpkins has the knowledge and he is also 17, which places him at just the right age for the role. We find this evidence enough to vouch for him. Ty will be the protagonist in the next Ironman. He is guided by Robert Downey just like JARVIS or FRIDAY.
According to the sources, Disney plus is prepping a series based on Ironheart, the teenage genius who continues Tony Stark’s legacy in the comic books. In the comics, the character of Ironheart name is Riri Williams. Marvel introduced her to Robert Downey when he is in a coma. However, the world needed a new Iron person. AI voiced by Tony trains her.
The source states Robert Downey Jr would return in a voiceover role similar to Paul Bettany’s JARVIS.
This could be easily translatable to the MCU as well, which we know is in mourning for Stark thanks to Far From Home.
Why this may be the case?
Riri Williams is a 15-year-old engineering student and the daughter of the late Riri Williams Sr. Working alone, Riri designs a suit of armor similar to the Iron Man Armor using material stolen from campus. Also, Tony Stark hears of Riri’s accomplishment just like he got to know about Spiderman. Thereafter, he goes to meet her and decides that he will endorse her decision to become a superheroine.
The return of Robert Downey Jr. to MCU
Featuring Downey Jr. in a voiceover capacity would also be a way of bringing him back but in such a way that wouldn’t take up too much of his time, as he’s got a lot of new projects on the horizon. Thus, we hope Marvel follows through on their plans. Hence, we expect to see Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel in the near future as the new JARVIS.
