This year actor Priyanka Chopra-Jonas might get into the race for Oscars for her Netflix original White Tiger
Trade magazine Variety has brought out its official Oscar predictions for this year. The Baywatch star falls into the magazine’s Top-tier Awards Contenders for Best Supporting Actress category. Variety’s Film Awards Editor Clayton Davis makes scheduled predictions viz Draft, Pre-Season, Regular Season and Post Season. Why Priyanka Chopra’s Oscar Chances are Bleak
Variety nominates Chopra Jonas in the Best Supporting Actress category for Netflix’s The White Tiger. The Project was announced in September 2019 where along with being part of the ensemble Chopra is also an executive producer.
The White Tiger is based on the book authored by Aravind Adiga. He received the 40th Man Booker Prize for the same. The story follows the life of Balram Halwai who started as a servant at a tea shop, went on to become an entrepreneur and the cost of the wealth and fame he acquired. The movie is being helmed by Ramin Bahrani who has 99 Homes (2014), Fahrenheit 451 (2018) and Chop Shop (2007) to his credit. The movie also stars Raj Kumar Rao and Adarsh Gourav in prominent roles. Despite finishing production the movie’s release date is yet to be announced.
The Academy this year has enforced new ‘Diversity Quota’ which is getting backlash. Nonetheless, an Oscar nomination is a feat in itself more so for a woman of colour such as Chopra who has been targeted in the past by the media. However when competing with 21 times nominated Meryl Streep, Olivia Colman, Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose and amazing other actors like Han Ye-ri, Talia Ryder – PC’s chances are definitely at odds.
