Director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants is for the older millennial an invitation to reminisce the mutants we grew up with while a chance to welcome the new ones with open arms.

- The New Mutants Movie And It’s Expectations
The pressure of superseding the O.G mutants (Who still get chills just thinking about Halle Berry as Storm!) is being felt by the cast.

Blu Hunt who is portraying Danielle Moonstar in the upcoming movie started to freak out seeing her character on screen for the first time. Thankfully, she had her co-star Maisie Williams help her calm down. According to the news, she turned towards her co-star who had closed her eyes and said “You’re good! It’s good!”
A Positive LGBTQ Representation by Marvel
Director and co-writer Josh Boon’s main focus in the movie is the character driven focus LGBTQ love story. Maise Williams’s and Blu Hunt’s characters share a telepathic connection in the comic book series which according to the director only made sense to turn into a love story.
If two people understand each other on a telepathic level which literally translates to inside and out, it would only make sense for them to fall in love with each other.
Also, Maisie Williams mentioned in an interview that though the love story is an important part of the movie, it’s shown in a rather subtle way so as to not look like a gimmick. No one in the movie questions it or talks about it. It’s just there as normal and accepting as a heterosexual relationship would be treated.

Not Here For Token Representation
More and more production houses move towards proper queer representation in their movies and not by having a character play the queer person part just for “token representation”.
By being Marvel’s first same-sex couples in cinematic history, it was critical for Marvel to represent it in a respectable way that doesn’t feel like a tool to get more people to the theaters.
Director Josh Boone (Famous for The Fault In Our Stars) has mentioned how growing up in a conservative environment made him want to write this movie with a gay couple in the forefront of the story. He wanted the representation in the movie to be nothing short of ground breaking.
Unlike the fairy tales that have been at the forefront- from Beauty and the Beast to Cinderella to Snow White and many more, times have certainly changed when the only representation important was the damsel-in-distress female character with the knight in shining armour (Do I even need to write male?).
The New Mutants Movie And It’s Expectations
Set for an April 3 release which has been postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19, The New Mutants features a cast of five mutants trying to fight evil forces from the inside.
But for people who don’t know, this movie has been on the shelf for years! Originally a production by Fox before Fox was bought by Disney and then the Corona virus happened further postponing the film..still following?
Although, given the chemistry between Maisie Williams and co-star Blu Hunt at the premiere of the movie the two of them are clearly still enjoying the closeness and friendship they had enjoyed playing a couple on-screen. And we for once can’t wait to see them be love-struck with each other on or off-screen.
