The live-action adaptation of the classic, Lion King, has garnered over $142 million at the overseas box office.
Director John Favreau’s amazingly realistic remake of the animated classic, Lion King has already become the fifth-highest grossing movie of the year. The film with voice over from Beyonce is on its way to joining the glorious billion-dollar club.
Lion King has garnered a grand total of $963 million to date. The movie added $75 Million in North America this weekend, bringing total domestic sales to $350 million.

The strongest sales for the overseas are from China, at $114 million. In the UK, Lion King earned $45 million, $42 mil in Brazil and $40 mil in France.
Lion King will hit theatres in Japan on August 9 and Italy on August 21.
Other movies making it big
Sony’s “Spiderman: Far from home” has been scaling the box office and recently surpassed “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, crossing the $1 billion mark. It is the first Spiderman movie in the world to achieve the feat, making $1.03 Billion worldwide.

Toy Story 4 has earned an international tally of $522 million, earning $19.4 million in the overseas market. Globally, the talking toys adventure has earned a total of $917 million. The movie is set to debut in Germany in August.
