John Wick franchise is expanding its universe in every way possible. John Wick is making his debut in the John Wick Hex trailer.
British studio Bithell Games are coming up with action strategy video gameJohn Wick Hex, based on the movies featuring John Wick. The game serves as a narrative prequel to the film series.
“It seems the John Wick franchise won’t be stopping anytime soon.”
Lionsgate and Good Shepherd Entertainment are collaborating for the new videogame whose first gameplay demo was brought to E3 2019. They both are working on the upcoming John Wick Hex.
The trailer showcases the game’s cell-shaded art style and teases the original story that will be told. Most of the trailer focuses on the game’s combat, though.

John Wick Hex is scheduled for release on 8th October 2019 for Microsoft Windows and macOS, with a plan to come in Consoles. Veteran game director Mike Bithell will helm the project. The John Wick game will be an action-oriented strategy game in which you will think and strike like John Wick. In the game, we will see him the same as the professional hitman just like in John Wick Movie.
The Logic behind the Game
Developer Bithell Games co-founder Mike Bithell said, “It’s the logic of the fight that when you’re watching as a viewer, you think, yeah, that seems how you would fight, and that’s the driving principle of every choice we’re making is, does this feel like it’s sensible?”.
“As you say, if I’m directly in front of a guy, the chance of me hitting him is 100% every time. Because it is. If I’m John Wick, he would not miss at this range. One of our starting assumptions with the game was that we thought that John Wick never misses. You go back, watch the movie, he totally does, but he misses in places where that feels logical,” Mike Bithell added.
The Creative Aspects
The creative and stunt teams are working with the Good Shepherd that will implement the “gun-fu style” from the movies and expand the universe previously established on the big screen. In John Wick, game players will be able to unlock various weapons, John Wick suits, and locations as they play.
Bithell game wanted a conversation with back and forth responses, a factor that the stunt coordinators for the films have kept in mind. There is a game scene which is taken from first Wick film, where Wick has run out of bullets, so takes a moment to stun his enemy to give him time to reload his weapon and fired again before the enemy recovers. Bithell wanted gameplay that would capture that.
Realistic aspects to create further immersion
To keep the gameplay realistic, limited ammo is provided within the game, this will make gameplay more strategic. With every attack and move, there is a cost and consequence that will contribute to the player’s progress.
The John Wick Hex trailer was an announcement shortly after the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 –Parabellum. We can pre-order the game now, and it will be available exclusively via the Epic Games store for $19.99.John Wick and his enemies are shown on a timeline similar to those used in video editing software, with actions taking different amounts of time. The game will be paused if the player has not added further actions into the timeline.
Earlier this year, Bithell said John Wick Hex will eventually make its way to other consoles, but there’s no word on which or when just yet.
