Zack Snyder recently revealed the first look for Jared Leto’s Joker for Justice League Director’s Cut
Back in October 2020, fans could not keep calm as the news broke about Jared Leto joining the cast of Zack Snyder’s Justice League broke out. Speculations, rumours and fan expectations soon followed. Leto’s appearance in Snyder Cut marks his name in history for playing the Clown Prince of Crime for the second time in a live-action movie. Till date, five actors have played the Joker in DC movies but none twice.
Leto joined Snyder and cast of Justice League sans Henry Cavill during the additional shoots. Whilst, the 2017 movie did not feature Joker at all Leto’s addition seem to expand Snyder’s rogue gallery. The big bad Darkseid or Uxas, if you may, will also be debuting in the Snyder Cut. As Warner Bros ramp up the marketing for Justice League on HBO Max, the director revealed a new look for the Joker.
Same Actor Not The Same Joker
Leto first appeared as Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad helmed by David Ayer. Least to say the meddling of WB executives in Ayer’s vision ended up hurting all parties. The movie did not do justice to either Joker or Leto’s performance. Furthermore, Leto’s look – tattered teeth, tattoos et all – were heavily criticized by the fans and critics alike.
The backlash was such that WB dropped the plans of a standalone Joker movie. Similar to Ben Affleck’s Batman standalone feature, Joker went to Todd Philips to direct and his choice to play the Crown Prince of Crime was Joaquin Phoenix. Made on a modest budget the movie was a grand box-office success. Furthermore, it garnered Phoenix an Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe among other awards.

For Leto’s fans that was the end of any and all hopes to see Leto’s Joker to justice. But with Snyder Cut the director is all set to redeem the character. With the latest tease of Joker, Snyder tweeted to David Ayer, “Amazing character you created. Honored to have our worlds collide.” Ayer much like Snyder was a victim of studio meddling that resulted in the failure of Suicide Squad. For the uninitiated, just like the Snyder Cut movement there’s a dedicated section of fans who aredemanding the ‘Ayer Cut’ of 2016’s Suicide Squad. To see Snyder’s solidarity with Ayer fills fans with further hope.
Nonetheless, we won’t meet the same Joker from Ayer’s vision!

Jared Leto’s New Joker Look
Back in November 2020, Zack Snyder told YouTuber and comic book writer, Grace Randolph about a complete new look for Jared Leto’s Joker. Without going into much detail he described ‘he has a road weary look.’ However, industry insider and scoopers later reported that Leto will be seen sans the tattered teeth and overdone tattoos.
In a separate report from WGTC, the portal claims that Leto will be seen in the Knightmare sequence ‘complete with long brown/green hair and a tattered wardrobe adorned with guns and police badges.’ With the teaser that Snyder gave us, we can make out long hair and kind of Arkham Asylum Jumpsuit. However, the blurred glimpse starkly reminds one of Phoenix’s Joker.
Many fans are expecting Joker to show up in a Knightmare sequence that was foreshadowed in Batman Vs Superman: The Dawn Of Justice. If the speculations are right then one can expect Joker fighting alongside Batman after Darkseid approaches. Snyder has hinted towards a ‘vignette’ that captures Joker. The ‘road weary’ look with long hair, make sense as when the world ends that would be the state of most people.
Joker will come to our screens in March, 2021 in Director’s Cut of Justice League on HBO Max.
