The Rock is set to come into the MCU and further electrify the world’s most exciting franchise, but what character will he play?
Dwayne Johnson is one of the most renowned faces in Hollywood. He was recently seen in Hobbs and Shaw. Now The Rock next target is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is not yet decided which character will be perfect for him. The wrestler-turned-actor also revealed that he had a dinner meeting with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, following the release and success of The Avengers: Endgame.
‘Avengers: Endgame’ co-director Anthony Russo recently sat down and was asked about who The Rock would be perfect for.
Before Johnson joining MCU, there were rumours that he be joining the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), portraying the villainous Black Adam in a Shazam movie. Till now there is no announcement from DC on The Rock joining as the new cast. However, after seeing Marvel’s success at the box office with an interconnected franchise of superhero movies, it just seems better for The Rock to be joining Marvel. Moreover, there are tons of great Marvel characters that Johnson can play.
Here are some Marvel Characters that will be perfect for ‘The Rock’
Garrison Kane
Garrison Kane is a character from Marvel comics that debuted in X-Force Vol.1 #2 (1991). He is also known as Weapon X and Kane. Kane is the former member of Cable’s mercenary team called Six Pack. He has cybernetic arms which provided him with superhuman strength.
Rob Liefeld, Deadpool comic writer is also interested in putting Dwayne Johnson as X-Force member Garrison Kane. He posted a picture on Instagram of Johnson next to the Garrison Kane character. He captioned the picture saying that Johnson will have great chemistry with the cast of Deadpool franchise. “You’re a natural and Kane is already celebrated by millions of comic’s fans who have thrilled to his adventures since I first introduced him in X-Force #2! Your pal, Rob!,” he added.
Weapon X was supposed to be in the very first Deadpool movie. As the character wasn’t a tested box office brand and the budget was tight enough for the R-rated comedy. So it looks like it’s right time for them to introduce The Rock as joining Marvel.
Namor
According to the rumours, The Rock will be joining as Namor, a Marvel character. As the budget of the DC movie, Black Adam was not that much, so Johnson is vying for the part of Namor in Black Panther 2. He has his eyes on the part of Namor, who’s expected to debut in Black Panther 2.
Namor the Sub-Mariner character is the mutant son of a human sea captain and a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis. In comics, he’s been depicted as an antagonist from a certain point of view but other readers have found his cause worthy at times. Portraying Namor’s kingly arrogance would prove to be a real challenge for Johnson, but what an incredible performance we will see if he were given the right script and direction.
Black Bolt
Blackagar Boltagon also known as Black Bolt first appeared in Fantastic Four #45 (December 1965). He is the ruler of the Inhumans, a reclusive race of genetically altered superhumans. The alien-human hybrids would be a solid fit for The Rock if he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Boltagon has the power to destroy mountains with a whisper of his super-voice, which is why he’s cursed to never speak. He is expressionless and stoic in his comic appearances. He’d need to be portrayed by a master of facial expressions like Johnson. It looks like he will fit for this serious speaking role, but as silently muscle-bound ass-kicker.
The Thing
The Thing is the character which is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. Michael Chiklis played the character in Fantastic Four movies. This time we can see The Rock Joining the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. This time the suit of The Thing will ditch the unconvincing rubber costume. They will opt for ILM level effects similar to those which so perfectly brought The Hulk to life in The Avengers.
This time Marvel will cast some on-point heroes for the upcoming Fantastic Four. The Thing is an ugly guy you can’t help but love, he jokes through his inner turmoil, he has a pair of beautiful eyes wedged into the rocky crevices of his face, and he packs a mean punch. It could be just a motion-capture performance, but with the right script, Johnson would make an amazing thing. And he’s already called “The Rock”!
M.O.D.O.K.
MODOK is a supervillain in Marvel Cinematic Universe who first appeared in the title Tales of Suspense #93–94. He became a recurring foe for superhero Captain America. George Tarleton was subjected to a mutagenic process that transformed him into MODOK and grants him superhuman intelligence. He also had a computer-like memory, the ability to scour and retain large data-banks of information very quickly and solve abstract mathematical problems nearly instantaneously.
There is a possibility of The Rock joining the Marvel Universe as the most bizarre villain. He’s a giant, floating head that has ties to Captain America, the Hulk, SHIELD, and countless other Marvel heroes but his heart truly beats for Ms. Marvel. In comics, he is treated as a serious threat to Earth. Sometimes he gets comedic; he gets in his own way would be a pretty great role for the Rock. He is Floating Rock head with tiny arms.
