The Witcher Season 2 is embracing Henry Cavill’s superhero persona in a new Batsuit-esque costume
It’s been a while since production on the second season of The Witcher resumed and recently shut as COVID grappled 4 crew members. Henry Cavill thankfully is fine. Set photos were recently released and it’s clear the producers intend to modify the costumes to reflect an evolving story. Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia has gotten a complete costume make-over, with his new attire taking a more superhero-like adaptation. A sturdy breastplate connects to a pecs and abs outline on material that looks like leather.
A lot of the shimmering from the first costume has been replace with matte black leather, stylishly laced with belts and straps. Although it seems like they opted for a heavier type of material for this Season2 costume, its custom fit design and Cavill’s skill, could totally eclipse that issue.
Watch: The Witcher | Geralt’s Monster Mash | Netflix
The Witcher premiered on the Netflix streaming platform in December 2019, and quickly racked up a strong viewership, catalyzing the decision by NetFlix to renew the show for a second season.
Set in a fantasy world full of all kinds of monsters, the show follows the story of a mutant monster hunter, a powerful witch and a princess navigating through medieval Nilfgaard. Based on the novels by Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski, the show mirrors medieval English settings in its fantasy depiction. The show’s impressive fight sequences and plot outline helped it quickly become a fan favourite on the streaming service.
Henry Cavill’s Batsuit-esque Armour
Henry Cavill’s new costume has caused quite a rave on social media with fans comparing it to Val Kilmer and George Clooney’s Batsuits. Both Kilmer and Clooney’s the Batsuit featured a long cape, a jagged hem, tall pointed ears and very conspicuous pointed nipples. The Batsuits didn’t go down well with the audience and were thrashed badly by the critics. Even George Clooney on occasions has mentioned the bizarre nipples of the Batman!
The inspiration for the suit was supposedly the muscle cuirass worn by many generals and nobles in Ancient Greece.
This type of armor was specifically designed for senior members of the army. The puffed chest and chiseled abs were meant to give an increased impression of strength and confidence.
Cavill’s new costume might be an even closer depiction of the greek army costume compared to Batsuit; especially because the design team decided to exclude those conspicuous protruding nipples. However, with Cavill’s physique and body structure, protruding nipples might not look too out of place.
What we see in released set photos?
Whether this new costume will be Henry Cavill’s major attire throughout Witcher’s season 2, or just one of many that he will be wearing isn’t known yet. Although, with its custom fit design and numerous belts and bolts, it looks like the costume would feature in a lot of action.
Released set photos also revealed new costumes for Anya Chalotra’sYennefer and Ciri. After the events in the first season, these new costume photos for Yennefer and Ciri signal that the two ladies could be getting a lot of fight action in the new season.
The Witcher Season 2 stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
