Helmut Zemo aims to put an end to superheroes in MCU The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He has more in store for the Avengers.
Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) will play a significant role as the antagonist in the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. We last saw him in Captain America: Civil War where he single-handedly tore the Avengers apart. But it seems that his plans are far from over as he is back to take on Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, our very own Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
Did Zemo Got Snapped?
The rise of Helmut Zemo was a result of the actions of the Avengers. The battle of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron led to the death of his family. This enraged him to the point where he decided to break the Avengers from the inside. And we all know how it worked out. Civil War saw Captain America and Iron Man going against each other. This was after the final reveal that showed Bucky killing Tony’s parents. For all of it seemed to be the end of Zemo as he tried to kill himself had it not been for T’Challa who stopped him.
Taking the cleansing of half of the Earth’s population and its return, we are forced to wonder where Zemo falls in all this. At the end of the Civil War, he was arrested for his deeds. However, all the chaos that Thanos wreaked, now with his return, forces us to think where he has been all the while. He might as well have been chalking out new ways to destroy the Avengers. This is established when we see him saying that superheroes should cease to exist, in the trailer.

Why Is He Back?
What makes Helmut Zemo different in the upcoming series is his villainy (at least this is what it seems for now). In Civil War, we did have a sympathetic approach towards Zemo just like we did for all those who lost their loved ones in Sokovia and other battlefields for the Avengers. Places like New York, Washington DC, and Lagos. Furthermore, it was the loss of lives that ultimately led to the formation of the Sokovia Accords.
However, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Helmut Zemo (with his mask) will have a whole new avatar. We will see his villainous side taking over his human nature. Although there are other adversaries like the government-aided Captain America, John Walker, and the group known as Flag-Smashers, Zemo will play a pivotal role. Sam and Bucky need to watch out for him. Because someone who can turn the Avengers against each other should not be trifled with.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: A Political Thriller?
Being right after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will establish the variety that MCU has in its storylines. Before this, we have Captain America: The Winter Soldier which ran on the same track as this series seems to. And no doubt the movie is one of the best movies in the MCU. So, considering the vibe along with the grounded nature of the characters, including Sam, Bucky, Zemo will be the perfect antagonist. Governments will come into play. New secrets will be revealed. Action will be brutal. All that we do hope for is that his return does should not disrupt the continuity that Captain America: Civil war established.
