There is no Harvey Dent in Robert Pattinson’s Batman but we can sure hope to see it in future.
It is no news that Robert Pattinson’s Batman has taken the fans by storm. Since the release of the teaser trailer, fans have been drooling over the brooding, dark-eyed Vengence of Pattinson’s Batman. Though director Matt Reeves informed the audience during DC FanDome that the movie was only 25 per cent complete, the teaser caught on with the fandom like a virus. Ummm, maybe not a virus. Anyway, Reeves has confirmed his rogue gallery to have likes of the Penguin, Cat-Woman, and The Riddler. There were speculations of the possible inclusion of Harvey Dent aka Two-Face in The Batman as well.
As reported by CBR.com, there is possibly going to be no Dent in Reeves’ Batman, for now. But, looking at the darkness of Battinson’s universe, we cannot help but speculate, or should we say hope to see the two-face soon enough.
Harvey Dent In The Batman 2022
In the events of Batman Harvey Dent turned from a White Knight to Tow-Face acting as a Yin to Dark Knight’s Yang — much like the clown prince of crime Joker. Dent is as much responsible for Batman’s evolution as much as Joker playing with his psyche. The absence of such an influential character in Reeves’ Batman looks like a miss. Especially when The Long Halloween plays one of the major influence on The Batman movie. Nonetheless, there are rumours of Peter Sarsgaard’s original character Gotham DA Gil Colson being a replacement character for Two-Face. It seems unlikely.
Plainly for the fact that Sarsgaard’s character is evil from the start. Whereas Harvey Dent is certainly the White Knight of the Dark Knight’s tales. The recent images from Liverpool’s St George’s Hall show the full influence of the Long Halloween story which follows the events of Batman: Year One and is Two-Face’s origin story. So, the set photos’ combined with the fact that Pattinson has a trilogy Two-Face’s inclusion at the end of the movie won’t be surprising. And then there is also the fact that Pattinson’s Batman isn’t ready for Joker yet! Along with fans Comic writer Grace Randolph also pointed out the possibility of Harvey Dent’s presence in the Robert Pattinson’s Bat-verse.

Two-Face’s Inclusion In Robert Pattinson’s Bat-verse
The basis of Batman’s existence is to clean up the city of Gotham so that no other child ever experiences the murder of its parents. This is rooted in the inefficiency and corruption present in the GCPD. Bruce believes that the Gotham City Police Department is unable to rid Gotham of its ailments unless it’s Jim Gordon, and hence the responsibility lies on him.
Similar to the Nolan-verse, Robert Pattinson’s Batman will need Harvey Dent, if not in 2022, then maybe in the second installment. Harvey Dent is the attorney that will be unwavering in front of the imminent threats. The ‘Hero Gotham needs,’ and the reason which will let Bruce Wayne retire the cowl.
It’s just not about Harvey Dent, but even Two-Face. One of the most iconic Batman villains, Two-Face, symbolizes Bruce’s constant tussle between being good and evil. In 2019, there was a rumor about Matthew McConaughey playing Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ Batman. It never really came to fruition.
Why Not Joker?
As Matt Reeve’s told audience Batman is currently in Year Two of its inception, we can see the ferociousness of the character. The way Pattinson’s Batman beats a hapless goon lifeless in the teaser, we can make out that his Bruce Wayne has yet not come to terms with the vigilantism. He may be wearing the cowl and driving the Batmobile, but he has yet not developed the ‘No-Kill’ policy.
A young and nerved Batman would not be able to handle the psychotic games by the clown prince. Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is still getting a grasp over his alter ego. Contrary to what we have seen in the last two versions of the character. Affleck’s Batman had experienced the death of Robin, and Bale’s Dark Knight had been trained under Ras al Ghul.
Pattinson’s Batman would be too easy a target for Joker. So easy that the Joker may not even bother killing him. Because, after all, it’s all a game for Joker.
Not just Two-Face or Joker, we would love to see Matt Reeves introduce some more Gotham baddies like Poison Ivy, Swamp Thing, Hugo Strange, and Solomon Grundy in 2022. With the rising possibilities of a multiverse happening in DC, never say never.
