Thanos doesn’t deserve the credit for Captain America’s broken shield because it was actually the fault of Fox.
During the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, the fans witnessed Thanos breaking Captain America’s Shield. The incident came off as a surprise to many. Marvel Studios established that Captain America’s shield was made of a metal called Adamantium-Vibranium alloy which makes it indestructible.
Nevertheless, Thanos was able to destroy the indestructible element which left the fans in frenzy. However, today we’ll dekode the real reason behind the unforeseen destruction of Captain’s Shield.
Fox Studios Responsibility
There are two special weapons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which are made of indestructible element Adamantium. Mutant Wolverine’s special claws and Captain America’s shield. In the comics, both of these weapons are made up of Adamantium which is the real indestructible element.
However, the 20th Century Fox had exclusive rights over the metal and thus Marvel couldn’t bring it to the speed while making Captain America. Because of the licensing issues between these two studios, Marvel had to use Adamantium-Vibranium alloy, which enabled Thanos to break it in the Endgame.
This also establishes that Captain America’s shield was not actually vulnerable, it was just an issue of rights which caused many fans to suffer the pain of seeing their favorite Captain lose his armor.
Captain America v Wolverine
Captain America’s Shield and Wolverine’s Claws are the two most significant weapons in MCU. Received as gifts, however, these weapons have become an integral part of their character. Yet, the fans always try to contemplate – what would happen if they ever met?
In Avengers vs. X-Men #3 written by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by John Romita Jr., the two superheroes of Marvel Comics come against each other. They both were chasing Phoenix across the galaxy. The two didn’t hurt each other, but the famous claws clashed against Captain America’s shield. Captain’s shield somehow survived that blow.
But Captain America better have better plans in place. Because without any change of plan or a tactic, if Fox’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Captain America were to come against each other, the claws would cut through the shield. Vibranium can absorb kinetic energy, but it isn’t indestructible (as evidenced by Thanos destroying the shield in Endgame).
