Marvel’s storyline leak has the power to bring back our beloved Tony Stark without hurting Iron-Man’s legacy.
Avengers: Endgame (2019) is Marvel’s best movie to date. It was the perfect culmination to all its preceding films (21 in total) called the Infinity Saga. This was the result of Marvel contributing a whole decade setting it up, starting with Iron-Man in 2008. The reason for its impact on the minds and hearts of the fans was how it borrowed elements from reality. The stakes were real, the fight was bloody, and death was “inevitable.” We paid a high price and lost both Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark. After all, they are the Avengers, “…not the revengers.” And maybe that’s why we love them and miss them so much.
Marvel is indeed going to bank on the success of Endgame for its future movies. But it won’t be in any way relate to Endgame as the studio always shelve out something new. Thus, in MCU Phase 4, we won’t see the Avengers, as we know them, return. There will be new superheroes, new villains, and a whole new storyline.
Marvel’s Secret Storyline Explained
A recent leak by industry insider Mikey Sutton from geekocity tells that Marvel is working on the Secret Wars storyline as well as the Illuminati storyline. It means that we shall see Tony Stark again. We say this because the Secret Wars is a storyline that deals with alternate universes. Marvel’s Illuminati is a covert group of superheroes consisting of Mr Fantastic, Professor Xavier, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Namor, and…Iron Man.
Watch: History and Origin of Marvel’s ILLUMINATI
However, if Tony Stark returns, it should not it any way belittle his death in Endgame and keep the legacy intact. Death in the MCU was never really an end. We have seen Gamora return even after being sacrificed by his father, Thanos (Infiniti War). We also see Thanos snapping Loki’s neck at the very beginning of Endgame. However, in the same movie, we saw past Loki escape from New York, which will take him directly to the upcoming Loki TV series (early 2021).
Tony Stark’s return to Marvel should not demean his sacrifice in Endgame. So apparently, there remains only one way out. Which is the new Tony Stark will be from a different universe. And his character sketch will be completely different.
Secret Wars Spans Throughout MCU Phase 4
Further, per the leak, Secret Wars won’t be event films like Infiniti War and Endgame. Instead, it will span the whole of Phase 4 of the MCU, including both the movies and the Disney+ TV series.
Spanning through MCU Phase 4 Secret Wars will lead up to an Endgame-like finale movie.
The villains, going by the 1984 original Secret Wars comic series and its 2015 makeover, will include Doctor Doom, Galactus, Magneto, and Kang the Conqueror. The role of Thanos will now be played by Beyonder, who transports superheroes and villains to alternate Earths of the multiverse to face each other.
During The Secret Wars planets will turn into Battleworlds just like in the comics.
The Avengers will face an alternate version of themselves, known to us, through the comics, as the Squadron Sinister. The X-Men of MCU will fight their 20th Century Fox counterparts.
On the other hand, we will also see Marvel and Sony’s Spider-verse in MCU Phase 4. We will have the first glimpse of the Multiverse in Spider-Man 3 where Doctor Strange will fill the shoes of his mentor. The Multiverse will further reveal itself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 2022) where the Sorcerer Supreme will be accompanied by the Scarlet Witch and possibly America Chavez.
Marvel’s New Tony
While we know Marvel is set to introduce Illuminati into the coming MCU phases Sutton reports, Tony Stark will be recruited by Mr Fantastic. It can bring back to us a new form of relationship between Tony and his recruit from Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man.
Only this time, it won’t be Peter Parker but Miles Morales. However, it is Doctor Strange who will be the new “Iron Man of Secret Wars.” He, and not Tony, will be the new centre of it all. Marvel wants Tony Stark AKA Robert Downey Jr. (or vice-versa) back for the role. And we can bet on it that if there is an actor who can do justice to an alternate version of Tony, it is RDJ himself.
“Blueberry?”
