What to expect from Spider-Man and Doctor Strange’s Multiverse adventure in the upcoming Spider-Man 3
With phase 4 of Marvel’s cinematic universe set to kick off in the coming weeks, fans might need to rewatch a couple of the old movies to make complete sense of the timeline saga that is about to ensue. Dr Strange seems to be at the helm of affairs as far as the multiverse is concerned. While the Sorcerer Supreme is set to open the portals through which the MCU plans to bring in a couple of new heroes, he’s also going to be mentoring our favourite neighbourhood spidey.
Doctor Strange & Peter Parker’s Chemistry
After the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home where Peter’s true identity was exposed and he was consequently framed for Mysterio’s death, the third movie in the saga is set to feature him trying to clear his name. While it was earlier speculated that Peter would be enlisting the help of Hell’s Kitchen’s titular vigilante, it seems Doctor Strange would be much more instrumental in ensuring Peter Parker is vindicated.
Watch: Spider-Man 3 Doctor Strange 2 Movie Announcement Breakdown
Up until Iron Man’s demise in Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark had assumed the role of mentor for young Peter. It looked like that role would be taken over by Nick Fury after his cameo in Spider-Man 2, but turns out he has more pressing inter terrestrial matters to attend to. Instead, it’s been revealed that the sorcerer supreme would be playing a huge role in the Spidey three-quel.
Although Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame had a few scenes between Peter and Doctor Strange, they’ve actually had a couple of adventures in the comics. Besides, since Spider-Man possesses the ability to transverse multiverses, there is a lot he might have to learn from the protector of the multiverse timeline.
Marvel’s intention to delve greatly into the cosmic realm is evident by their movie slate for Phases 4 & 5, and while we are expecting a lot huge names to be introduced in the coming months, Doctor Strange might be moving into pole position to become the MCU’s most important character.
Old Foes in New Dimension
Doctor Strange’s Multiverse of Madness is set to introduce a lot of new heroes and villains into the MCU while serving as the connection point for all the developing storylines. One character recently confirmed to be making an entry soon is Jamie Foxx’s Electro. The actor is set to reprise the role he played in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Electro’s introduction in Spider-Man 3 could be the first gear towards unravelling the Multiverse and Doctor Strange will be present to stir the ship. This could also serve as a lead up to both The Multiverse of Madness and Doctor Strange 2. With Sony stating that their Spidey-verse will be able to include the MCU as it develops, Doctor Strange could also serve as the pivot that leads Peter towards that Multiverse.
In the MCU, magic is pretty much believed to be the source of life, hence why the sorcerers have always been in charge of protecting the timeline and different dimensions. As Phase 4 gears up for a lot of extra dimensional activity, it will be interesting to see how Doctor Strange will be able to create time on his busy schedule to attend to Peter Parker.
Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for December 17, 2021, while Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is slated for March 25, 2022.
