In MCU future Doctor Strange will not only mentor Spider-Man but the new kid on the block America Chavez as well
With movie production gradually picking up pace after months of lockdown, auditions have resumed for Marvel Studios next slate of movies. One movie that has particularly picked up a lot of chatter is the sequel to surgeon-cum-sorcerer, Doctor Strange. Rumoured cameos, alternate timelines all adds up to the excitement. Nonetheless, in MCU Phase 4 Doctor Strange will not only mentor Spider-Man but new kid on the block America Chavez as well.
After Endgame’s slew of events that saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes defeat Thanos in a manipulated rematch, the next phase will involve them dealing with the repercussions of their actions. Naturally, the Sorcerer Supreme would be the first to get a notification if there was a visitor from another timeline, which is why Doctor Strange’s Multiverse of Madness is rumoured to be the entry point for introducing several heroes in the next phase. Heroes like Professor X, Daredevil and some members of the X-men are set to come into the MCU through the Multiverse. With Wanda warping reality on Disney+, it’s hard to tell how far the multiverse could reach.
America Chavez Meets Doctor Stephen Strange
One interesting new hero who has been rumoured to make an entrance for quite some time now is America Chavez. Young, stubborn and often reckless, she hails from an alien race in a different dimension of the multiverse in the Earth 616 timeline. She ran away from home after her parents sacrificed themselves to save the universe. In a bid to live up to their standards, she begins to travel and explore the universe and her exploration eventually leads her to earth’s present timeline.
Chavez’s superpowers are said to come from the Magical presence of the Demiurge in her hometown, Utopia, giving her the ability to create portals through the multiverse.
Recently, a scene from auditions for the role of America Chavez got out, and the dialogue gave a pretty interesting hint into what to expect in the sequel. The scene starts off with a discussion between a young teen girl and a voice mimicking the other people in the conversation. These other people are rumoured to be Doctor Strange and his assistant, Wong. We can guess this from the nature of the conversation between the three of them.

In the audition footage, Doctor Strange impatiently presses her for details about a certain demon attack which had obviously been averted. The Sorcerer Supremes’ inability to recognize the demon meant it was probably from another dimension. Further in the scene, America Chavez explains to both Strange and Wong certain details of how the multiverse works, confirming that there are alternate versions of the characters that we know on our main timeline in other universes. “You’re both in better shape where I’m from” she supposedly tells Strange and Wong as she confirms she is an orphan. This confirms the presence of our favourite superhero in an alternate dimension with a slight difference, making several rumoured cameos in the sequel possible.

America Chavez’s MCU Future
It isn’t yet clear what America Chavez’s role will be in the Multiverse of Madness, although it hints strongly at a lot of apparent disruption in different timelines in the multiverse. One obvious one is the absence of 2014 Thanos in his timeline after he left during Endgame to battle the Avengers. The absence of such a titular figure would create a totally different reality and involve other forces trying to benefit from the opportunity.
With so much plots and angles embedded in the Multiverse, the pressure for the movie to live up to its billing is gradually increasing. A precise execution could also help Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange fill that anchor position that Ironman had previously filled.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was scheduled to be released in theatres on May 7, 2021. However, with the current uncertainty surrounding normalcy in the world, there is a likelihood Marvel Studios would still do a couple of reshuffling to their movie premiere schedule.
