You don’t have to be a Hollywood insider to know that Tom Hardy is widely considered to be one of the most talented actors of his generation.
From dream devout to a soldier to a superhero to a supervillain, Tom Hardy has done it all. This British star loves to shun conventional acting opportunities and go for obscure ones in order to stand out from the crowd.
To celebrate his penchant for the peculiar here are some facts you might not know about Tom Hardy.
1. Star Trek: Nemesis Broke Him
Tom stayed extremely focussed during the shoot of Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. He would keep himself away from any substance. But the financial and critical failure of the film broke him and Tom fell into alcohol addiction.
2. Before Being An Actor…
Tom Hardy was a model! That’s right. He appeared for the first time on the television in hit British show The Big Breakfast after winning a modeling competition.
3. He’s A Self-confessed Manipulator
According to Tom Hardy, acting was the only thing he could do as he finds other jobs “boring”. Also, he’s confessed more than often that he’s a gifted liar and a master manipulator so he wouldn’t fit for any other job than acting. Ever thought of politics, Tom?
4. Dedication Personified
For the role of inmate Charles Bronson, Tom Hardy did 2,500 press-ups a day, every day! And, he did this two times! The first time he bulked up, the movie fell through. He lost the extra weight and starred in the film Stuart: A Life Backwards. Then, the production of the movie was back up again, so he had to bulk up all over again.
5. He Loves Being Naked!
Girls take note! The actor would show off his buffed up the body while in his birthday suit during the shoot of his show Taboo.
6. Why Nolan Chose Him?
Well, Tom assumed that he got the role of Bane based on his performance in Bronson. But actually, Christopher Nolan claims that he chose Tom based on his performance in RocknRolla and he’d not seen Bronson till then.
7. For The Love Of Dog!
The actor’s love for dogs is well renowned. He visits an Animal Rescue Centre near him where they allow him to hug the canines. The perks of being famous, eh?
8. He’s A Crime Fighter
As confirmed by London Police, Tom Hardy caught one of two thieves who were running in a stolen car and ran into another car in Richmond, London. Tom sprinted through gardens and a building site before declaring that he’s “caught the c***!”
9. He’s Also A Rapper
In fact, the had a record contract. His manager was the same man that manages the Fugees. He worked with Grammy-winning producers Warren Riker and Gordon Williams to record a couple of rap albums. His rapping career did not pan out and he claims that he wasn’t that good. Though we must admit it would be pretty awesome to see Hardy on stage giving it another go.
10. His Celebrity Idol
Tom has made it more than obvious that he admires and idolizes Gary Oldman. That’s lucky for Hardy because he has acted alongside Oldman in four different movies: The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Lawless, and Child 44.
