Andy Serkis has closed a deal to direct Sony’s ‘Venom 2’, sequel to the 2018 film.
‘Venom 2’ is set to have Andy Serkis on board as the director. The sequel to Sony Pictures’ 2018 Marvel movie grossed $856 million at the global box office.
For the film Andy Serkis is one of director that including “Bumblebee” helmer Travis Knight and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes’” Rupert Wyatt.
The movie will once again star Tom Hardy as the journalist who joins with an alien symbiote.
Ruben Fleischer directed the first movie in 2018, but isn’t returning as he is in post-production on the studio’s ‘Zombieland: Double Tap.’ Sony hopes to shoot the follow-up to “Venom” in the fall.
Venom 2 will be Serkis third directorial effort, after the 2017 drama Breathe and last year’s non-Disney take on the Rudyard Kipling stories, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
Serkis is best known for his performance capture work in the “Lord of the Rings” and “Planet of the Apes” movies. He has also played the villain Snoke in the recent Star Warsfilms, as well as bad guy Klaw in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.
