In a recent reveal, Marvel Head Kevin Feige confirms WandaVision will break the fourth wall
WandaVision is officially set to propel MCU Phase 4 starting January 2021. The six-part Disney+ series will start right after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The trippiest thing about the WandaVision series apart from its sitcom aesthetics is the return of Vision who is technically dead in the timeline. Nonetheless, the show has created a lot of hype and continue to do so with many its reveals.

Wanda Maximoff’s Transformation
Wanda is the most underutilized Avenger in the lineup. While the transfer of mutant rights from Fox to Marvel last year has eased much of the restrictions for the studio retconning the characters is due to happen in Phase 4. In a recent interview with EW, the creators and cast of the show teased many secrets to further the excitement of fans. Marvel President Kevin Feige explained the character further saying, “If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single person has gone through more pain and trauma than Wanda Maximoff. And no character seems to be as powerful as Wanda Maximoff. And no character has a power-set that is as ill-defined and unexplored as Wanda Maximoff. So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame. Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”
These are some pertinent questions all fans need answer to. Whilst fan first saw Wanda and Pietro Maximoff first at the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier, they were explored in Age of Ultron. The studio wasn’t allowed to use word ‘mutant’ nor it could show their relation to Magneto. Hence the storytellers resort to attribute their powers to the Mind Stone. The recent in cannon book Wakanda Files further retcons their past by mentioning triggering their genes.

This gives us an interesting insight into Wanda’s powers in the MCU. In a prior interview, Feige has confirmed that Wanda Maximoff was indeed more powerful than Mad Titan Thanos. So Wandavision will give us an extremely detailed look at Wanda’s transformation into Scarlet Witch.
WandaVision’s Sitcom Setup
Furthermore, the sitcom-like set up of the show is really intriguing. The trailer showcase Wanda and Vision travelling across decades of a sitcom setups. Bewitched, I Married Joan, That 70’s Show, Full House is some American sitcoms whose influence can be seen on the Disney+ series. It’s established that Wanda might be creating pocket dimensions in the reality to bring back Vision and these sitcom-like setting is how it manifests. Furthermore, a House of M Easter egg was spotted in the trailer confirming the theory.
But the most interesting reveal comes from Feige himself, he told EW, “We go up to the Modern Family and The Office style — the talk-to-the-camera, shaky-camera, documentary style.” While the mockumentary genre itself is very interesting the ‘talk-to-the-camera’ reminds us of another Marvel character who often breaks the fourth wall.
Yes, Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, is most famous to break the fourth wall. With Mutant rights the character also does homecoming from Fox to Marvel. Recently, it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds’ R-rated superhero is going to stay the same even in the MCU and is officially in works at the studio.
While Deadpool is yet to come, WandaVision with its sitcom aesthetics is coming in 2021 will break the fourth wall first in the MCU!
