If Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers) and Scarlet Witch (aka Wanda Maximoff) come face to face in the MCU, who would win?
We, the Marvel fans, have always found it amazing whenever there is a face-off between two superheroes. Take, for example, Captain America: Civil War. We absolutely loved it when Captain America and Iron Man literally landed punches on each other. In the same way, who do you think would win if Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch of the MCU came face to face? Both of them fall among the most powerful of Avengers, after all.
Infinity Stones are the Origin of Captain Marvel & Wanda’s Powers
Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson) was exposed to a blast of energy from the Tesseract when she destroyed an engine powered by Space Stone. Her body absorbed the energy and while she would have died, the Kree infused here with Kree blood. This is what makes her a Kree-human hybrid. It is important to note that Carol AKA Captain Marvel does contain the unlimited power of the Space Stone. She was exposed only to a fraction of its energy, but enough to make her one of the most powerful Avengers in the MCU.
Watch: Kevin Feige Confirms Wanda is More Powerful than Captain Marvel
On the other hand, we have Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen). As we know from Avengers: Age of Ultron, she, along with her brother Pietro, was experimented upon by Strucker. And the source of the experiment was the Mind Stone. The Marvel Studios Visual Dictionary notes that it is doubtful whether the stone gave her the powers or did it just unlock something that was already latent in her. These words suggest that Wanda might actually be a mutant in her latent form whose power was unlocked by the Mind Stone. However, Marvel president Kevin Feige in 2017 suggested that her abilities might be mystical like those of Doctor Strange. The only difference is that her powers are untrained.
Captain Marvel’s All Mighty Powers in the MCU
Flight
“Yeah, I can fly.” These were the words uttered by Tony Stark after he had the first successful test of his thrusters in Iron-Man (2008). Who would have thought then that a day would arrive when we would see a superhero who can fly across the universe. Wanda can levitate herself but she can’t fly.
Going Binary
She is not like Thor but she does have God-like abilities. She can control energy in any form which makes her in total control of herself. Carol Danvers’ can draw her powers from a white hole and can go full Binary mode! This also means that she knows what she is capable of. Wanda on the other hand is very unstable.
Control Over Space & Matter
She lives and breathes space. And she knows very well how to use it to her advantage. She is the only Avenger who has control in the empty matter. So, in case Wanda unleashes her rage, she can naturally flee into space.
The ‘Seventh Sense’
Just like Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, too, has the ability to smell if something is about to go wrong the next moment. This will allow her to sense when and if Scarlet Witch decides to surprise her. Foreseeing an attack is always helpful. Ask Spider-Man.
Wanda Maximoff’s Transformation into Scarlet Witch
Magic And Magical Energy
Wanda Maximoff’s magical powers are renowned in the MCU. Right from Age of Ultron to WandaVision, we can see her powers and the way she is developing them with time. This is Captain Marvel’s soft spot, and we all know what she did to Hulk in Age of Ultron, right?
A tiny Bit Evil
We don’t mean she is bad but a considerable part of her energy is a result of her rage. She is like Michael Fassbender’s Magneto (In X-Men: First Class) who makes use of his anger to control and lift heavy metal objects. And basically, we have no idea how strong she is. And this can be dangerous for Captain Marvel.
Reality Warping Ability
On the other hand, the Scarlet Witch can manipulate time and reality. And its strongest proof is WandaVision itself. And what’s more, she cannot control this power of hers as well. So, if she wants to show Captain Marvel some of her worst nightmares, she actually can. And that is a huge advantage.
Healing Powers
Well, Captain Marvel has healing powers as well. But here’s the catch. Scarlet Witch knows magic. This means that she can not only heal but also turn more powerful after healing. This is something that Carol cannot do. Moreover, healing time will be much less with magic, don’t you think?
So, we can say that it will be a battle worth watching if Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch come face to face. However, the Scarlet Witch might have an upper hand. This is due to her ability to manipulate reality. Who do you think will win? Take your time; nobody’s there to manipulate yours.
