These action-packed video games have a cult following, terrific sequences and engrossing storylines that make them automatically qualified to be phenomenal Hollywood successes.
Nowadays we get to see popular Video Games in the market turned into Movies. These famous video games have become inspirations for the filmmakers. The widespread technological advancement in the gaming industry has further led the film industry to turn towards popular games for box office success.
This concept is not new but has been relevant since the 90s. The video games have now blossomed into a multi-billion-dollar industry. There is no denying the impact that it has created. But despite decades’ worth of attempts, only a handful of movies have been successful in bringing the fun of gaming to the big screen.
Here are some of the Video Games that are turning into movies
#1 The Last of Us
The Last of Us is a survival horror game by Sony Computer Entertainment. The third-person game uses firearms and improvised weapons. Players can use stealth to defend against hostile humans and cannibalistic creatures. The game starts with an outbreak of a mutant Cordyceps fungus. The outbreak ravages the United States and transforms humans into aggressive Zombie-like creatures known as the Infected.
The main Character Joel flees the chaos with his brother Tommy and daughter Sarah. While fleeing Joel’s daughter gets shot by a soldier and dies in his arms. Twenty years later, civilization is decimated by the infection. Sam Raimi is on board as a producer, while the game’s writer, Neil Druckmann, is working on the screenplay. They confirmed that the film will be based on the video game’s storyline. Neil Druckmann in an interview said, “I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do.”
It certainly seems like Druckmann finished The Last of Us movie script quite some time ago but simply didn’t want to see it turned into a movie
#2 God of War
God of War, the mythology-based action-adventure video game made by David Jaffe. The game has become a flagship title for the PlayStation brand, consisting of eight games across multiple platforms. The game’s story revolves around a Spartan warrior, Kratos. He is trick into killing his wife and daughter by his former master, the Greek God of War Ares.
Kratosseeks to rid himself of the nightmares by serving the other Olympian gods, but soon finds himself in confrontation with them due to their machinations. There are talks going on for God of War to be a big-budget live-action movie adaptation on the way that keeps dipping in and out of development hell. The film’s development is going on for almost fifteen years and we hope that it finally make the movie.
Marcus Dunstan on the making of the movie said, “It’s badass. It’s been so fun. Working with that team, they have been just so supportive. They want to get this movie to the screen. So, we have been doing our part and we’re very much in the trenches right now delivering page after page after page to make that a reality.” Jason Momoa is the actor in the loop for the role of Kratos.
#3 L.A. Noire
L.A. Noire is an action-adventure detective video game made by Rockstar Games. L.A. Noire played to a sold-out crowd at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011. The game’s showcase at the festival in a nod to the game’s efforts to erase barriers between video games and film. In the game, players play as Cole Phelps, a returning World War II veteran who solves crimes. He works his way up from beat cop to detective.
LA Noire is the first game to employ Motion Scan. This technology uses 32 HD cameras that are set up in a room to record the facial movements, voice, and actions of each actor. The technology allows the actors to emote freely, as they would in film or television work. The story is set in Los Angeles and follows an LAPD officer, who solves a range of cases across five divisions. There are no talks on the game to become a movie. By seeing the trailer of the video game it resembles movies.
Halo is a sci-fi military game that manages and develops by 343 Industries, a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios. The central focus of the franchise builds off the experiences of Master Chief John-117, one of a group of Super Soldiers codenamed Spartans, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana.
There are talks going on for a Halo TV series. Years after plans for a live-action Halo film fell apart, Master Chief heads to Hollywood with a TV series on Showtime. There’s not much we know for sure about the content of the show, but there are going to be Spartans, with Master Chief taking his proper place as a central character. There are expected to be nine episodes. The most recent casting news gave us some clues as to the characters we’ll be seeing when the show arrives in 2021.
