David Harbour, best known for his role as Jim Hopper in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things and also Hellboy is all set to appear as Red Guardian in the upcoming Marvel’s Black Widow.
In a recent interview, David Harbour shared some insight about his experience while filming Black Widow. David hated filming Black Widow’s action sequences part of his role as Red Guardian.
David Harbour Hates One Aspect of Filming Black Widow
Harbour spoke with Entertainment weekly and said, “It’s awful. I mean, I just got beat up constantly. This s**t is awful. Anybody who tells you, ‘oh yeah, man I love doing stunts,’ that is nonsense. Stop it.” The trailer, besides showing the Natasha Romanoff, gives a good look of bearded Red Guardian in the Red-Grey suit. David also called Red Guardian “the best character in all the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Harbour further told about his character Red Guardian,” On one level, he calls him a classic superhero badass character, but then when you meet him, he has this need to be liked.”
Harbour also said, “Red Guardian wants to be thought of as funny and a big shot, which he isn’t.” Although he got a brilliant character to play in Black Widow, David Harbour hated being beaten up during his stunts in production.
Who is Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian?
Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian is a Soviet agent. He was chosen to become the Captain America of erstwhile USSR. But since the creator of the formula Dr Erskine died without revealing the secret, Alexei had to go through the intense training as well as learn to use advance weaponry.
As Tony Stark would say about Captain America that everything special about Steve Rogers came out of a bottle. But Red Guardian’s skills are not a result of any science experiment to create the next super-soldier. Since Red Guardian is being compared to Captain America, the first thing that would strike the minds of the fans is the combative equipment like Cap’s shield. Red Guardian has got a modestly sized disc that would detach from his belt, which was embedded with magnets and that magnet attracts it easily to him after throwing.
David Harbour’s Intense Workout for Hellboy
Since we are talking about the filming of stunt sequences in the Black Widow that Harbour had to go through and did not like a bit of it, David had appeared in the 2019 Hellboy.

David in an interview admitted, “It was the hardest shoot I’ve ever done, primarily because there are just so many stunts in it”. Furthermore, he said that there’s a lot of stories too and a lot of big scenes. We shall get to see a lot of David Harbour running around, jumping and turning, and punching stuff. It’s crazy!
He further said that he is 42 years old and the fact that no one asked him to do this in his 20s is insulting. Questioning himself on why he became a superhero in his 40s, Harbour admitted that his bones are not what they used to be. Doing action sequences was very hard. But he also found it really thrilling because he got to carve out an entirely new mythos to the Hellboy. Moreover, he got to play on a big palette of witches and giants and demons.
