A Novel By The Women For The Women
DC’s Wonder Woman of History will feature 17 women from different walks of life like politics, sports, entertainment and more. These women are picked up for their contributions to their respective areas of expertise. The novel will feature singer Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, tennis player Serena Williams, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Along with Emma Gonzalez, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Marsha P. Johnson, disability rights activist Judith Heumann, stand-up comic Tig Notaro, Afro-American gymnast Dominique Dawes and more will be featured.
Further, the individual stories will feature these women as taking up the mantle of Wonder Women in their careers. On top of featuring these women, the entire project is also driven and backed by women. An array of non-binary artists and writers has worked on the novel. New York Time Best Seller author, Laurie Halse Anderson has edited the novels. She told Nerdist,
Wonder Woman has been an iconic figure for girls and women around the world for generations. She gave me the example of a woman who combined justice, compassion, athleticism, and power that I needed. When the good people at DC brought up the idea of an anthology of real-life Wonder Women to me, I was on board instantly.
Beyoncé As DC’s Wonder Woman
Queen B is hands down a legend! Her illustrious career has many milestones and she is heavily referenced in the pop culture. Beyoncé Knowles is a singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, actress and filmmaker and is married with kids to Rap star Jay Z. Born and raised in Texas she has been on screen since childhood participating in singing and dancing competitions. Her rise to fame was singing group Destiny’s Child that her father managed. Later as an independent artist she sold millions of albums. Her tracks Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”, “Halo”, and “Irreplaceable” are among some of the best-selling singles of all time worldwide

However, her philanthropic work coupled with her representation of Afro-American community has changed many lives. In July, Beyoncé announced Black-Owned Business Fund to support Black-owned businesses across US. Her new Disney+ film Black Is King’s trailer drop last month created a lot of buzz among fans.
Interestingly, DC’s Wonder Woman Gal Gadot also looked up to Beyoncé when she was auditioning for the titular role. While auditioning for the role of Diana in Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs Superman to keep the nervousness at bay Gadot turned to Beyoncé tunes. She told W magazine, “I decided to put on Beyoncé. Who runs the world? Girls! I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!” No wonder girls run the world. Beyoncé certainly does!
Wonder Woman of History graphic novel will hit bookstores on December 1, 2020.
