The extended Knightmare sequence opens up the opportunity for Snyder-verse to expand into another Elseworlds story
Last year after the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the director went on to do some additional photography on an additional $ 70 million budget. Part of these reshoots were Batman Ben Affleck, Jared Leto as Joker, Cyborg Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller as Flash, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. In the following interview, Snyder confirmed it’ll add up to another 4 minutes to the four-part story.
Batman’s Knightmare sequence was first seen in Batman V Superman: The Dawn of Justice. It starts out of nowhere and end with Batman literally getting his heart crushed by Superman. The intriguing sequence was foreshadowing of the Justice League 2. In the Snyder Cut seems like the director is culminating the plot point for a satisfied viewer experience.
Stylized specifically with a K for Snyder’s world Knightmare sequence is post Apkolyptic scenario of a doome earth. What happens when the heroes lose and Darkseid wins? Its Batman’s worst nightmare and we’ll see it unfold in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
In the comic, when Darkseid comes for the anti-life equation and decimates earth. The death of Louis Lane turns Superman evil in an alternate timeline and it is what we see unfolding in the Snyder Cut. Superman is evil and Batman has to stop him at any cost. Possibly we’ll see many League members dead and the only way to stop it from happening is to save Louis Lane. Remember Flash saying ‘Louis is the key.’ To stop Superman in the Snyder Batman will forge another alliance with his rogue gallery. Joe Maganiello aka Deathstroke, Leto as Joker are confirmed for the sequence. In the trailer we see a shadow of Cyborg so we know he’s alive but other heroes would have fallen.
The Joker’s Part
The new Justice League trailer also features Leto’s Joker. Leto was a last-minute addition to the Snyder Cut as the director thought it’d be ‘uncool’ for fans to come this far and not see the archnemesis Joker and Batman together on the big screen.
More than damaged, Snyder’s Joker is a tragic take on the character. The director told Vanity Fair about a sequence where Joker is analyzing Batman, ‘Who he is?’ It’ll be a scene of a lifetime to see Leto and Affleck finally coming face to face being on the same team.
Watch: What To Expect From The Snyder Cut’s Knightmare Scene
Snyder interestingly gave Leto the line ‘we live in a society.’ It’s a famous meme and mocks a person who finishes it, in time people started using it with the Joker. And finally in Zack Snyder’s Justice League trailer, Snyder canonize the line!
Furthermore, industry insiders believe that’s not the end of the Joker but just a fresh beginning. Writer and YouTuber Grace Randolph has told her followers that Warner Bros might be interested in a Joker spin-off to extend the Snyder-verse. He could be the future of DCEU. Others believe a Knightmare Elseworlds tale can also be the extension of Zack Snyder’s DCEU. While, there is no official word about a Justice League 2 these kinds of spin-off series cannot be far behind given Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman already has one.
