Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors Casting as antagonist Kang the Conqueror For Marvel’s Ant-Man 3 has endless possibilities
Finally, Marvel Fans have some good news! Entertainment trade magazine Variety has confirmed actor Jonathan Major has been cast in a lead role in Marvel Studio’s Ant-Man 3. While the report mentions an ‘unknown role’ it further suggests Kang the Conqueror as the potential character. Director Peyton Reed returns to helm the third instalment of the franchise.
Actor Jonathan Majors has a good streak in 2020. He starred in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Blood along with late actor Chadwick Boseman, who’d always be remembered as King T’Challa of the MCU. Majors also appear as Atticus in HBO’s hit series ‘Lovecraft Country’ by creator Misha Green. Now by signing a Marvel contract Majors has stepped into the superhero world.

Ant-Man 3‘s New Villain
MCU’s Ant-Man earlier made the headlines for giving both stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly top billing for the third instalment. The ensemble cast includes Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michelle Pfeiffer (Wasp), and Emma Fuhrmann (Cassie Lang) in major roles. Addition of Jonathan Majors in prominent role surely points at the casting of rumoured antagonist Kang the Conqueror.
This is one of the biggest news that has come out of the Marvel news circle in a while. The movie was originally announced as the part of MCU Phase 5 in 2019 SDCC Comic-Con. With the delay in the entire phase 4 due to the Coronavirus, Phase 5 further remains unscheduled. Ant-Man 3 remains untitled as well.

While Black Widow was set to kick start Phase 4, the last official update from Marvel announced Captain Marvel will close it. Not knowing what order MCU phase 5 movies are laid out it’s hard to make any guesses about Ant-Man 3.
Last we had seen Scott Lang; he was rescued by a rat in Avengers: Endgame and then he later inspired the OG’s for the time heist. The end of the movie saw him, Janet van Dyne and a grown up Cassie Lang content together. Most fans speculated Cassie will take up the mantle of Stature in Young Avengers line up. Not much was known otherwise but now Jonathan Majors’ casting as Kang the Conqueror opens up exciting avenues.
Kang the Conqueror‘s Place In Marvel Mythos
For the uninitiated understanding Marvel’s this time travelling villain is confusing to say the least. Similar to how MCU has its timeline; Kang the Conqueror has his own. Here it goes, Nathaniel Richards aka Kang is originally from the 31st century. He has had various incarnations over the years and each identity then has his own expansive history. Richards comes across a time travelling technology and travels to Ancient Egypt to spend some time as a pharaoh Rama-tut. He then overshot his return journey by a thousand years, landing in the 41st century. The era was so peaceful and evolved that Kang easily conquered it. Once settled as a King he kept coming back to main timeline to take on his various foes such as Spider-Man, Avengers and more.

Given the expanse of Kang the Conqueror’s history and incarnations in Marvel mythology, he is said to be descendent of Mr Fantastic, Reed Richards and also their foe Doctor Doom. While Marvel recently acquired back all the rights of its Fox characters including Fantastic Four, Majors inclusion can point at a possible X-Men introduction.
One of his other incarnations, Iron Lad also set up the Young Avengers team in the marvel comic timeline. Given the rumours around Ant-Man 3 setting up the Young Avengers coupled with the fact that we have seen Iron Lad at Tony Stark’s funeral (that unrecognisable boy from Iron Man 3). If the theme is executed with Marvel’s touch – can be a mind-bending experience for fans.
The possibilities of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3 is endless and so is his role in the MCU.
