Marvel confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be set in the MCU. Ryan Reynolds will bring back his famous Merc with a Mouth for another R-rated film.
The arrival of Deadpool into the MCU will be interesting. Until now, the merc with a mouth and his actions were limited to his own franchise. But now that he will be making his entrance into the MCU, his meta-humor will see new landscapes and much more effective ones. With so many characters to interact with, humor will have a new face. However, how the House-of-Mouse-owned Marvel plans his entry is what we wait to see. For the possibilities are many.
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 both ran successfully at the box office. And fans were naturally expecting for a third installment of the franchise. However to expect 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool in the MCU was a dream. Until now. With a deal cracked between Fox and Marvel, this became possible. Moreover, Ryan Reynolds was at the helm of it all by leading the campaign for Deadpool’s potential entry into the MCU. He admitted that MCU Deadpool 3 will be “explosive” and “amazing” for everyone.
Marvel president Kevin Feige told Collider, “It [Deadpool 3] will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.” This is a reassurance that the Deadpool franchise is in “worthy” hands.

A Solo Deadpool in the MCU
However, Deadpool is the only X-Men character that will be debuting in the MCU. While we can be assured that other mutants will appear too, it will take some time for that. Moreover, other than Deadpool, all other mutants will have to be recast and so will the storyline. This means that the previous X-Men movies will not cannon the continuity.

Jumping The Universe From Fox to MCU
The blueprint for Marvel to bring Deadpool into the MCU has already been laid by Deadpool 2. The post-credits scene in Deadpool 2 shows Deadpool manipulating the Cable’s time-machine to go back in time to right some wrongs. Remember when he shoots Ryan Reynolds as he is about to read the Green Lantern script? Or when he kills Weapon X from Wolverine: Origins? Talk about meta-humor!! So this very time machine could have made him jump universes and landed him in Deadpool 3 and the MCU.

Merc in Doctor Strange’s Multiverse
Another way for his arrival can be the multiverse theory. We know that Spider-Man 3 and more so Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will explore the multiverse. This can easily make Deadpool cross paths with the MCU superheroes. Or if not so, then we can at least expect a cameo from him. And we all know how cool Deadpool can be in such moments.

Deadpool debuts on Disney+
The upcoming Nick Fury Disney+ show can also show him recruit Deadpool to investigate the Skrulls as it is in the comics. This will lead to the Secret Invasion storyline which will also be happening and is already in the works.
There is another suggestion. Deadpool is not the only one to break the fourth wall. She-Hulk is also known to have this ability. She is known for having often addressing the readers. She had also ripped a villain out of her comic once. This can also be a way for Marvel to connect Deadpool 3 and the MCU.

Deadpool 3 Starts MCU Phase 5
Keeping in mind the words of MCU president Kevin Feige, filming of Deadpool 3 won’t begin until 2022. So, there are high chances that the movie will have a 2023 release. And it is only natural with Marvel having so many projects underway; while some are in the pre-production stage, others are in production, and some waiting for their release. This gives the creators ample time to weave a worthy narrative around Deadpool that will explain how he landed up “Disneyland”. Probably, Deadpool 3 can kickstart MCU Phase 5 given its production timeline.
We cannot wait to see Ryan Reynolds mold himself into the character to align with the rest of the superheroes in the MCU. Imagine the quirk that will come out of a conversation between Reynolds’ Deadpool, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange!! “Superhero landing!”
