And AI research found its great challenge in a real-time strategy game, StarCraft. Google has been working night-and-day after acquiring DeepMind, which has created AlphaStar AI technology as a challenger.
AlphaStar is programmed in a way that it mimics the thinking capability of humans, with raw data interaction model.
The AI exhibits the potential human-mind capability to think alike. Meaning it’s an automated thinking machine that can consider the most favourable decision in any given environment.
How does an AI beat Professional Players at StarCraft 2?
StarCraft 2, similar to rock-paper-scissors, have no single best strategy. Created by Blizzard Entertainment, it is set in a fictional science-fiction universe. It features rich, multi-layered gameplay designed to challenge human intellect. While the game involves various strategic techniques there are several different ways to play the game.
However, in e-sports, the most common is a 1v1 tournament played over five games. Along with the original game title, it is among the biggest and most successful games of all time for more than 20 years.
To win this game, a player must carefully balance big-picture management of their economy – known as macro – along with low-level control of their individual units – known as micro. What makes the game is almost intuitive is the fact that crucial information is usually hidden from a player and must be discovered by “scouting”. Hence, AlphaStar needs to keep exploring and expanding its strategic knowledge.

Can Artificial Intelligence Take Over The World?
It is not a far-fetched idea that malevolent robots will rule the world in the coming times. AI has become so sharp that Google’s AlphaStar has not only mastered games like Pong, Chess and Go but have triumphed over a popular and the most difficult science fiction video game StarCraft 2.
Scientists predict that a fully trained AI machine can competently make micro and macro-level strategies such as swift reaction time and abrupt decision inputs. AI can produce ingenuity like a human to be inventive with the situation instead of encroaching or procuring data from an existing one.

After defeating two professional players in January 2019, DeepMind took AlphaStar to face off against members of the public and achieved Grand Master level.
