Disney’s last few ventures have not fetched much fame. It is now keen to go the Marvel way for its Hercules live-action movie
Disney’s last big-budget stint was much-loved fantasy sisterhood drama Frozen II. After that, the live-action version of Mulan was what everyone was looking forward to. It was time for the dainty princesses to move over and make space for the fiercest warrior princess. However, COVID-19 struck, and all the Hollywood productions came to a halt, affecting the release of further Disney movies as well.
- After Frozen II and the soon-to-be-released Mulan, Disney is prepping us for Hercules
- The legendary Disney hero is all set to return to the screen, the Marvel way
- Hercules will have a superhero touch to it
Amid various losses, Disney’s first-quarter results showed Disney+ exceeding management’s expectation. The streaming service did well during the lockdown with the presence of MCU content and anticipation of the upcoming shows.
Now as the world has to move on eventually. Disney is planning to add Marvel Head Kevin Feige like superhero touch to save the day. Revamping another of its old animations with help of Marvel creatives that have worked on various Marvel projects. They are now setting-up Disney’s Greek God Hercules for a live-action movie.
Greek God with a dash of Superhero
Well, the last few live-action versions of Disney received a lukewarm response, be it Dumbo or even The Lion King. The movies were successful at the box office but somehow could not garner the same nostalgia that Beauty & The Beast or Cinderella could.
With Hercules live-action movie thus, Disney wants to break the cycle.
Therefore, Disney has roped in none other than action scribe David Callaham to give Hercules a superhero touch. Callaham is the man behind the scripting of MCU’s upcoming Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. The movie has already created a flurry among the fandom of the franchise. Not only that Callaham also has Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables to his credit as well.
Is it safe to say that Disney’s Greek dream will be rounded off well with a Marvel touch? Yes. Hercules is Disney’s most powerful who comes with his own interesting history seeped in legends.
In fact, come to think of it. Hercules reminds one of Thor, and we all have loved the superhero-cum-god and how beautifully his whole character arc was brought to the fore in Avengers: Endgame.
What More? Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers behind the four movies of the Avengers franchise are getting involved too, albeit as producers.
This is surely crackling!
Well, while the involvement of the Russo brothers and David Callaham confirms the Marvel twist to Disney’s Hercules, there is nothing at the moment which sheds further light on the movie. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement.
What changes will the Marvel effect have on Disney’s strongest hero? That will have to be seen. With a Marvel’s touch, we can expect creative inputs that will take Disney’s Hercules live-action movie to newer heights.
The viewers and fans are surely in for a treat with this version of Hercules which is in the early stages of production, as of now.
Whether it will be a loose adaptation such as the live-action remake of Mulan, or will it be a frame-by-frame one such as that of ‘Beauty & the Beast’ or ‘The Lion King,’ it will have to be seen. For us, we can’t wait for this marvellous rendition of the live-action Hercules movie.
