Alia Bhatt to begin shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai after Inshallah has been shelved. The film is likely to go on floors in mid-October while the shoot is likely to start in February
Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt’s collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Inshallah had been in the news ever since it had been announced. A much-awaited film, it was supposed to be released on Eid 2020. However, last month fans and the film fraternity were shocked as Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that the film has been shelved. The film was supposed to reunite the superstar and the director after two long decades of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. But now, Alia Bhatt has got hold of a new project.
Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gangubai’ is likely to go on floors in mid-October

A source quoted, “Right now, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is working dedicatedly on the pre-production, music and in giving final touches to the script. Alia has also got the brief and she too is putting all the effort in understanding the part. Bhansali wants to formally announce the project but he’s waiting for the shraddh period to end and it’s considered to be an inauspicious time. Once the said period ends on September 28, a grand announcement will be made. The film will go on floors in mid-October. And shooting is expected to end by February.”
Who is Gangubai?
Gangubai is based on a chapter from S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. In fact, Gangubai Kothewali who was also called the Madam of Mumbai’s red-light district Kamathipura, was forced into prostitution at an early age.

She then became an influential pimp and had notorious gangsters as clients. Moreover, she became so popular that the walls of Kamathipura bore . She even met Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to discuss the plights of sex workers. In fact, Nehru was said to be quite impressed with her wit and clarity of thought.
