Karan Johar is gearing up to kickstart the shoot of his upcoming directorial titled ‘Takht’. The film is set against the backdrop of Mughal Era and the announcement for the same was made in 2018. The period drama will have an ensemble cast which includes Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor.
Contrary to the buzz that kept doing the rounds, the filmmaker is ready to roll his film early next year. According to a report, Takht will go on floors in February 2020 and it will be shot from the start to the finish. Given the megastars in the film and their tight schedules, it is a practical decision on Karan’s part to complete Takht in one go.
Takht is set in the Mughal and inspired by the fight for the throne between Aurangzeb and Dara Sukoh
A source revealed, “The film kicks off in February with a start-to-finish schedule. Being a period film, the technical team is presently focused on the sets and locations and the script, while also deciding on the diction and mannerism of the characters. Work on the visual effects will take place simultaneously with the shoot so the film is ready on time.”
For the ones unaware, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal will be seen playing Shah Jahan’s sons (Dara Sukoh and Aurangzeb) in Takht. Opening up a bit about his role in this period drama, Ranveer Singh told Femina, “I have always wanted to collaborate with Karan Johar and he offered me a brilliant part in a killer story. It’s unlike anything I have done before and I saw the potential to make something noteworthy out of it.”
In the film ‘Takht’, Kareena will be seen playing Ranveer and Vicky’s sister on the screen- Jahnara Begum while Anil Kapoor plays Shah Jahan. On a concluding note, the source revealed, “Every character has been inspired by history and since Ranveer has dabbled in the genre a few times in the past, from playing Peshwa Bajirao to Allauddin Khilji, the goal is to make him look different from what he has already done.”
Moreover, the film is likely to hit the screens in December 2020.
