Deepika Padukone opens up about how she deals with the pregnancy rumors and her baby plans
After a couple gets married, people around them start asking that one question repeatedly, “When is the good news coming?” Walking on the same track, Bollywood’s heartthrob couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who is leading to their first married anniversary, have to tackle the big question: kids. But, in a recent interview, Deepika Padukone opened up about her plans of having a kid. The couple is not ready for kids yet.
Deepika Padukone: We both love kids. But we’re too selfishly focused on our careers at this point

We Want Kids, but…
“It’s sad that society puts people in this rut that if you’re dating for so long toh shaadi kab hogi and then bacche. We’re not surprised by the rumours. Of course we want children, we both love kids. But we’re too selfishly focused on our careers at this point. It wouldn’t be fair to have kids at this point. We’re not even thinking about kids,” Deepika Padukone said.
In an interview with an entertainment portal, Deepika said that motherhood “will happen when it has to happen”. In Deepika Padukone’s own words about having kids, “Motherhood trumps being married. That’s what I hear from people who have had children. Of course, it will happen at some point but no; I think it is unfair to put women through that, to put a couple through that. I guess the day we stop asking the questions is when we will bring about change.”
Deepika Padukone is aware of the pregnancy rumors making rounds. When asked how she deals with it, the actress said, “I don’t think there is anything to tackle honestly. As people in the public eye, you are anyways so used to constant speculation. Sometimes, things are true and people probably second guess or assume something even before you have said it yourself and sometimes, it’s absolutely untrue. That’s the nature of the business that we are in.”
Apart from her Bollywood projects, Deepika Padukone never stays behind in working against the stereotypes that are closely spun with mental health illness. “I won’t die until I accomplish that. It’s my mission in life. I’ll not be able to rest in peace unless we, as a country, stop attaching stigma around mental health,” she told a portal.
