The makers of ‘Panipat’ released its first trailer and undoubtedly Sanjay Dutt looks brilliant as (Ahmed Shah Abdali) but netizens are comparing him with Ranveer Singh’s Khilji character. Also, Panipat has a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s hangover. See how?
Director Ashutosh Gowarikar released the trailer of his much-anticipated film Panipat. The trailer took us back from the third battle of Panipat which saw the clash between the Maratha Empire and Ahmed Shah Abdali the king of Afghanistan.

The multi-starrer film is going to release on 6th December 2019. The film stars Sanjay Dutt as (Ahmed Shah Abdali), Arjun Kapoor as (Sadashiv Rao Bhau), Kriti Sanon plays the role of Arjun’s second wife (Parvati Bai) Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman, Mohnish Bahl, and Nawab Shah.
Not just Sanjay’s character but Arjun Kapoor as Sadashiv Bhau looks like Bajirao
After watching the trailer of ‘Panipat’ Sanjay Dutt received many appreciations for his character as Ahmed Shah Abdali, in fact, his fans are happier to see him in Abdali’s character and expecting that this character would be the best character ever. Sanjay Dutt is one of the amazing actors of the Bollywood industry.
Talking about his role in the film, he was flawless and natural in the role of Ahmed Shah Abdali. And, Sanjay Dutt is the perfect choice for the character of Abdali.

But, on the other hand, netizens are saying Sanjay Dutt’s Ahmed Shah Abdali characters looks like Ranveer Singh’s Khilji in ‘Padmavat’. If we compare the character of Ranveer Singh as Khilji and Sanjay Dutt as Ahmed Shah Abdali, so we found similarities here. Sanjay Dutt’s Abdali is a little reminiscent of Ranveer’s Khilji in Padmaavat. Not just the characters’ looks, even the props look like they were borrowed from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sets, especially the crowns that are worn by Dutt’s Abdali.
‘Panipat’ has a major Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavat’ hangover
So, the hangover is not from Padmavat only, the film has Bajirao-Mastani fever as well. Peshwa Bajirao and Sada Shiv Bhau, we can’t help but compare Arjun Kapoor’s acting to Ranveer Singh’s flawless performance in Bajirao-Mastani. Even almost the costumes are similar. When you will see Arjun Kapoor’s character, he will remind you of Bajirao’s character. But the aura that Ranveer exuberated in Bajirao is nowhere to be seen here.

We know, now the makers will jump in defense that both the films and characters are different, but they should also understand that there are few memorable performances that we have seen in Hindi cinema and when two of those performances become a sort of reference point of that era for the audience, comparisons will happen.
If they wanted to impress the audience, they should have been thinking twice before making the film. Now, the question arises, will Sanjay Dutt be able to surpass Ranveer Singh’s benchmark? Let us know your views in the comment section below.
