Hrithik Roshan’s maternal grandfather and filmmaker J Om Prakash passed away at 93 in Mumbai on Wednesday morning
J Om Prakash was a veteran filmmaker who has directed films like Arpan, Bhagwan Dada, Apnapan, Aap Ki Kasam, Aasha, Aas Paas, Aap Ke Saath, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh, Agnee, and Aadmi Aur Apsara. The filmmaker was 93. He made his debut with Rajesh Khanna’s ‘Aap Ki Kasam’ in 1974 and the film was hugely successful. Performances were widely appreciated and it proved to be major box office hit. Moreover, the film was also a musical hit.
J Om Prakash served as the President of the Film Federation of India from 1995-1996.

The news of his demise was shared by actor Deepak Parashar on twitter.
Hrithik had shared pictures with his grandad on Twitter, calling him his ‘Super teacher’. “#MySuperTeacher – My Nana who I lovingly call Deda, for the lessons he has taught me at every stage of my life, which I share with my kids now. And Dr Oza, my speech therapist as a child, who taught me to accept my weakness and helped me overcome my fear of stammer.”
Friends and family pour in to pay last respects
Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first celebrities from the film fraternity to remember J Om Prakash as a “director of eminence”. He posted this tweet:

On his 92nd birthday, Hrithik hosted a birthday bash. He took to Twitter to share pictures and said, ” As a young man he sold his wedding ring to buy books. Studied under street lamps. Self taught. Ignited by creativity he forayed into films. Aap ki kasam n22 more jubilee films brought him name n fame. But his greatest work was love. Here he is at 92. My greatest teacher. My Deda.”
Further, the funeral will be held at Pawan Hans Vile Parle (West) in Mumbai at 12:30 pm on August 7
