Despite a large number of people dying daily due to coronavirus, there are some idiots who are unable to understand the severity of it all and are still going to beaches and indulging in group sports. Let’s meet these Covidiots…
It is not just Americans chilling at Florida beaches who need “a guide of coronavirus for dummies”. But also our Australian friends who seem to be either in a denial or are oblivious about the death and destruction the virus has caused across the globe.
Frolicking in their own world in Australia
Recent pictures of people frolicking at the famous Bondi beach in Sydney have shocked us beyond words and made us wonder are these “Covidiots” not aware of the danger they are putting themselves and others into?
It seems they are living in their own world and are not paying heed to repeated warnings by the World Health Organization as well as their own Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is propagating social distancing.
There were reports in local media that showed dozens of people swimming and jogging at Manly beach until March 27. Expressing disappointment over people flouting social distancing rules, Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan told 7NEWS, “Beaches and public places will be closed if people don’t follow the rules.”
Expressing shock over people’s lax attitude, NSW Police Minister David Elliott told 7News, “It’s unbelievable that people would take such an irresponsible approach to what is essentially a very serious pandemic.”
Neymar flouts social distancing protocol?
If this is not shocking enough, there is another case of “covidiots” who were reportedly playing football at a popular park in Wales. As per a report in Metro, cops had to be called to Roath Recreation Ground in Cardiff to have them dispersed.
It is not only the commoners who are flouting the basic norms of social distancing and encouraging “moronavirus,”. But even celebrities are a part of this circus.
Brazilian footballer Neymar was reportedly found playing foot-volleyball with friends at his mansion near Rio de Janeiro. However, a Reuters report says that the footballers has refuted these claims and said people in the photographs had traveled with him from Paris in a private jet and were in quarantine with him.
Can Delhi’s religious congregation be the next hotspot of COVID-19?
Even India, a country that is otherwise taking the pandemic seriously by imposing country-wide lockdown, was in news recently for a sudden surge in the number of cases.
Around 175 people attended a regional gathering in New Delhi recently. On March 31, there were 97 confirmed cases of the disease in Delhi and over 1,250 cases across India.
Bolsonaro: Brazil cannot stop for coronavirus
Even Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro has not understood the severity of the pandemic. He was flouting his own government’s social distancing guidelines to prevent coronavirus by mixing with his supporters on the streets of Brasilia.
Showing great concern about unemployment, Bolsonaro addressed media and said, “Brazil economy can’t stop for coronavirus”. He was questioning quarantine measures adopted by some governors and mayors of his country. He told AFP, “If it continues like this, with the amount of unemployment that we will have later is a very serious problem that will take years to be resolved. Brazil cannot stop or we’ll turn into Venezuela”. While he may be right about the unemployment and economy. He seriously needs to understand that humans are more important than jobs.
What is wrong with these people?
Are they really dumb or just insensitive that they can’t understand the seriousness of this virus? If they are not worried about their lives then why don’t they just commit suicide?
It’s not that we endorse suicide as we believe life is beautiful. But we condemn those who are taking unnecessary risks by being the potential carriers of the virus. So it’s time for publically naming and shaming these “Covidiots” so that they pay heed to the advice of experts.
