Rumour has it that Sophie Turner is pregnant. But she hasn’t confirmed or denied the pregnancy rumour. Here’s why…
The prince/princess of the North is on the way. Queen Sansa aka actor Sophie Turner is pregnant and the internet can’t keep calm. Celebrity news and entertainment website JustJared broke the news recently.
I am as excited as any Game of Thrones fan can get. We all freaking love Turner in the show. I admire her more for the person she is. One of the most sought out celebrities on the internet—Turner literally, grew up on sets and under the scrutiny of internet trolls.
Last year, she opened up about her struggle with mental health, being in therapy and on medication. She told Dr Phil’s podcast, “People used to say, ‘Damn, Sansa gained 10 pounds’ or ‘Damn, Sansa needs to lose 10 pounds or ‘Sansa got fat.’ It was just a lot of weight comments, or I would have spotty skin, because I was a teenager, and that’s normal, and I used to get a lot of comments about my skin and my weight and how I wasn’t a good actress. I would just believe it. I would say, ‘Yeah, I am spotty. I am fat. I am a bad actress.’ I would just believe it.” But she had her family, friends and (now) husband Joe Jonas to support her through it. And with enough love and support she is now able to love herself again, she said.
The couple started dating in 2016 and got married twice last year, once in Las Vegas in May during Billboard Music Awards. Then in June 2019, the second formal ceremony took place in Chateau de Tourreau in the south of France.
The Game of Appearances
But today when I looked up ‘Sophie Turner Pregnant’ on Google – I was baffled. As one headline read,
What baffles me is as soon as the news broke, ALL the attention went to her appearance. Media houses have been reporting what she’s been hinting it all along, trying to layer the look to hide the belly, etc, etc – why the speculations guys? Just Jared quoted the source saying, “The couple is keeping things very hush hush but their friends and family are super excited for them. Sophie has decidedly been choosing outfits to wear on and off the carpet to accommodate her changing body.”
Maybe Sophie Turner is trying to keep the pregnancy under wraps and rightfully so. After all mom-shaming is not a new internet trend. Talking about mom-shaming right from body changes, mood swings, breastfeeding or not to how you hold your child. Moms on the internet get good lessons from random strangers about how to raise their kids.
Beyonce, CardiB, Meghan Markle, Kim Kardashian, Hillary Duff, Megan Fox – all the moms have faced a range of allegations right from drinking wine post delivery, kissing your kid on the lips, letting the kid wear lipstick, not breastfeeding the child — and for what?
The Celebrity Yummy Mummy
The hot topic that comes to mind when dealing with celebrity pregnancy is weight fluctuations. There’s more pressure on celebrity moms to fit into a glamorous dress throughout their terms and instantly lose weight once the baby is delivered. Kim Kardashian reportedly cried all the way home over her Givenchy dress memes during the 2013 MET gala.
Anne Hathway, Jessica Simpson, Pipa Middleton, Meghan Markle and more have lived the pressure. One can easily find the plethora of weight loss glorifying internet articles like ‘Celebrity moms that got into shape quickly post pregnancy.’
Maybe that’s why cosmetic Moughal Kylie Jenner kept her pregnancy under wraps. Even sell your life on celluloid, mom-ager Kris Jenner knew it was imperative to keep Kylie’s pregnancy hidden from the trolls and internet.I repeat the Kardashians!
Why can’t we just admire nature the way it is? Remember, Demi Moore’s 1991, pregnant Vanity Fair cover that started the whole trend of ‘pregnancy photoshoots and magazine covers?’ Or Kim K and Beyonce’s Instagram pregnancy announcements?
Over the years, many celebrities broke the shackles of body shaming by embracing their naked bodies on various magazine covers. Cindy Crawford, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kourtney Kardashian, Serena Williams, Ashley Graham are some names that dared to celebrate themselves and inspired women across the globe.
The Real Pregnancy Conversation
Always the focus is so much on a woman to be a ‘celebrity image’ first that there are other important things that people don’t talk about. Like no one ever thought they’ll get a lesson on Preeclampsia from Kim Kardashin. While pregnant with son Saint, Kim spoke about her struggles.
Model Chrissy Teigen and Tyra Banks shared their fertility struggles. The shared story of trauma and struggle to get pregnant brought solace to many couples. They were scrutinized for the choices that they made along the way but there was more support for them in testing times.
It’s not only the body and health related issues that some celebrity moms covered. Some went an extra mile to erase any stigma around surrogacy or gestational carrier. Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Kardashian have all openly spoken about taking emotional decisions via this route.
Actor Nicole Kidman once told E! online, “struggling with fertility is such a big thing. And it’s not something I’ve ever run away from talking about, I’ve had a very roller-coaster ride with fertility, I just have. It has never been easy for me.”
Food for thought, ain’t it?
No pregnancy is pretty. It’s full of morning sickness, prenatal yoga, vomits, deep breaths, full of cravings coupled with mood swings and god forbid it can be postpartum depression. And only a woman has the right to decide how to deal with it. Not internet trolls, nor news websites.
Like Rachel Green said, “No uterus, no opinion.”
So, You Go Sophie! Embrace it, hide it, deny it… just celebrate the beauty you are!
