Krista Vernoff Talks About the Tragic Deaths Of Beloved Characters
Throughout ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, the fans have seen multiple romances between the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial. The fans even said goodbye to their favourite character in many tragic ways. On several occasions, a character will be killed off due to the actor or actress choosing to leave the show for other opportunities.
Recently, the maker of the show, Vernoff, spoke to ‘US Weekly’ about her thought process while going into season 16 of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. During the interview, Krista said that she wanted to go in a more positive direction with season 3 of ‘Station 19’ and season 16 of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.

The showrunner explains one major change she’s made to the series.
“On Grey’s Anatomy, I did the opposite of what we did on Station 19. There had been so many tragic deaths for so many years on Grey’s Anatomy that I felt like the most surprising thing I could do, repeatedly, was to not kill someone.”
Krista explains why this choice was the most surprising thing she could ever do in the show.
She further explained her choice and motivation behind doing this! “Time after time, no matter how many times I’ve done it, everyone, every time expects that the person who’s in danger or threatened in some way is going to die. On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, everyone was so used to the shock death that they were always looking for shock deaths! So I felt like the more surprising thing was to bring the joy and turn up the humour and the playfulness that had, a little bit, fallen out of the show in the wake of Derek’s death. That is how I feel like Grey’s has changed a little since I came back — a lot of characters who might have been dead by now are still alive!”

Krista served as showrunner on Grey’s from 2007 to 2011, then she came back on board in 2017. Krista also took over ‘Station 19’ for season 3. Although, the spin-off killed multiple characters during the season, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ did not.
