Jim Parsons is finally opening up about the ‘real’ reason that let him to quit CBS’ hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory after season 12.
In David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, Sheldon Cooper aka Parsons teary-eyed reminisced the ‘complicated road’ that pestered him to quit TBBT.
While Parsons confesses to having ‘suspicion in my heart’ that his 2-year contract for seasons 11 and 12 would be his last, that thought didn’t consolidate until the penultimate season filmed its finale.
In fact, there were a number of reasons, personal and professional, that triggered Parson into quitting the award-winning show!
THE INTENSE SUMMER OF 2018
Parsons calls it ‘an intense summer,’ of 2018 when he had to travel to New York for work concerns tied with commercial shoots.
“It was a complicated road, as you can imagine. We went through the 11th season, and then that summer, I went to New York to do ‘Boys in the Band’ on Broadway.”
However, the ‘exhaustive’ work-life balance was triggered when Parsons’ dog died which he describes as ‘the end of an era.’
“I was exhausted, and I was really upset about one of our dogs was getting really at the end of his life around then,” the thespian said.
BROKEN FOOT AND 6 YEARS TO LIVE
The actor said, “I’ll never forget that walk around the park to let him go to the bathroom before we went for the commercial shoot. He just looked so bad, and I was so tired, and (my husband) Todd was like … ‘we gotta go, we’ve scheduled this, they’ve fit everything around your schedule.’ And I just started crying.”
And, Parsons broken foot just aggravated the entire situation a furthermore.
“It was the scariest moment for the next couple of days because… I saw something really dark below,” said the 47-year-old.
And to top it all, Parsons’ thought about his late dad.
“My dad had passed years before, but he was 52. And I realized that at the end of season 12 I would be 46,” he said.
All those things combined formed ‘a really intense’ summer for the actor.
THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN
Jim Parsons got back to Los Angeles for filming The Big Bang Theory, and he explained the reasons to creator Chuck Lorre and writer Steve Molaro.
“If you told me that like my father I had six years left to live, I think there are other things I need to try and do. I don’t know what they are, but I can tell that I need to try,” he said.
Thus, Jim Parsons quit the show. And, that was kind of the final nail in the coffin for TBBT Season 13.
