It was natural to be confused after being associated with the same character his whole life. Furthermore, Jim Parsons revealed what his mental state after the sitcom ended.
“It was only a few months after Big Bang had ended. I’m not going to tell you what I was looking for, because I didn’t know. I thought I’d know it when I saw it. And then Ryan came along, and that’s all I needed to know.”
