Recently, entrepreneur Bhavish Agarwal’s Ola Cabs decided to open up its tech platform for the government of India, offering essential capabilities like real-time tracking, crowd managing, and monitoring. Ola’s real-time tracking and navigation abilities are now being leveraged by the state and the central government without any cost.

Before the vital nation-wide collaboration, Ola had been assisting Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh’s Punjab government in managing ‘real-time war rooms.’ The features being used include face-mask verification with real-time selfies, tracking of supply and relief vehicles and frontline workers. Ola is helping the government achieve new levels of micromanagement with the highest levels of data security and privacy on its platform.
Helping produce reach the markets
The Punjab government leveraged Ola’s platform to manage agricultural produce from over 17 lakh farmers, helping monitor their movement to the markets amid the lockdown. The monitoring feature is also helping the Punjab government ensure social distancing across the supply chain in the state.

The platform is expected to be used on a much larger scale now that state governments will undergo a staggered re-opening of economies from April 20th. Ola’s platform will help states contain large gatherings in public places and shops. Ola’s services are also being used to issue digital travel passes.

In a company statement, Ola co-founder Pranay Jivrajka dedicated the CONNECTS platform to the thousands of doctors, healthcare professionals and frontline fighters are India combats COVID-19.
The platform is the latest disaster relief measure by Ola cabs after the company waived off lease rental of driver-partners in the past weeks. Ola has also committed a few hundred dollars for each driver-partner and family if they get infected by COVID-19.
